Summernats Slam 2021 Sigra Race Report

After more than a year, we finally got to race the Saratoga Doorslammer again. COVID-19 restrictions prevented traveling and Sydney Dragway has been out of action being upgraded for most of 2020.

Last Friday January 8th we entered the Summernats Slam in Sydney and came home with all of our PB records broken. I guess having 12 months to think about tuning the car contributed to the results.

The day did not start out well. In Qualifier #1 the motor would not rev cleanly during the burnout and was dropping cylinders intermittently. It came good after backing up, but as a result I had a brain fade, launched the car in 3rd gear and completely destroyed the clutch pack.

With competition rounds starting soon after, we missed round 1 replacing the clutch and so were out of the point score for the day. Fortunately the 3 round format allowed us to continue to other rounds and in round 2 we laid down a 5.76 second ¼ mile – a new PB.

In round 3 we backed it up and lowered the PB to 5.74 despite carrying the front wheels for over 150 feet and needed a pedal to get the car away from the centre line.

Also first time over 200mph to half track and first time over 250mph (400km/hr) at full track.

It’s a great result and the credit goes to the Sigra crew - Mick, David, Tim, Mitch, Waldo and Bill, putting in a 16 hour day and all went home on their last legs

Thank you Sydney Dragway, your new track is awesome and congratulations to Mark Hinchelwood driving for Fabietti racing on winning the event.
